Sony A9III Pre-Capture Explained with Menu Help by Patrick Murphy-Racey
Переглядів 4279 годин тому
The new Sony A9III camera can literally see into the past, up to one second at a time. The enormous processing power and RAM inside the body allows the camera to see into the past for up to one second in 1/10th second increments. I explain how this feature is advantageous and how to set up Pre-capture in the menus on the Sony A9III. Please consider using my affiliate links to purchase equipment...
My Sony cameras and three lenses for shooting an OUTDOOR wedding. My lens choice might surprise you
Переглядів 72112 годин тому
I recently shot an outdoor wedding in the heat of the summer. I chose the Sony A7CII camera as my primary body and used the FE20-70mm f/4G lens for the bulk of the shoot. While shooting the ceremony itself, I also added the new FE70-200mm f/4G Macro lens on an A1 body. Once the ceremony was over with, I stuck that combo back into the bag and continued on with the Sony A7CII and the short zoom. ...
Can you reduce the shutter lag time on the Sony A9III?

The Sony A9III is already blazing fast in every possible way, but there is a slight advantage to be gained by making the lag time even shorter than the out of box setting. This video walks you through the menus to make the A9III even faster at getting on the action whether its shooting dance, performance, sports, or birds in flight. Should You Be Using "SteadyShot" to shoot sports/action on the Sony A9III?

Sony A9III Anti-Flicker Mode Explained (you can choose Anti-Flicker or Pre-Capture, but not both).
Переглядів 78019 годин тому
When the first A9II's made it out to the worst lit fields in the world, it was armed with a new feature called, "Anti-Flicker." When activated, two things happened. First, you had to be in mechanical shutter to get this to work so that meant limiting the 20 fps camera to just 10 fps. Second, it meant that you could shoot bursts of images where each one had the same exposure and color balance un...

Sony A9III: How to set AF Sensitivity Settings (AF Lvl for Crossing)

The new Sony A9III is a big camera on the inside. Some of the wording in the menu system has also changed. Since the A6000 back in 2014, Sony has had a menu item called, "AF sensitivity." In the A9III, that menu name has changed to, "AF Lvl for Crossing." It is doing the same thing as before but the description is confusing. Thanks for sharing. I use photo mechanic like most sports shooters. What is different since Sony made the A9/A93/A1, is that I don't look at just one photo at a time. I look at 9 at a time and only lock/tag the images I want to keep. This speeds up the editing process massively.

    Thank you for showing this work. I only occasionally do a wedding but admit I always used a 24-70/2.8 GMII for midrange but just picked up the small 24-50/2.8 G instead of the 20-70/4 G. Also waiting for my 70-200/4 G II to arrive this week but have used a 70-200/2.8 GM II for events. Really bought this lens as a lighter travel/landscape. At the wider end still unsure of what I want to settle on even though I have plenty lenses to go to. Also while I have 35/1.4 GM as well I have both theyFE 35/1.8 and Sigma l-Series 35/2 and still not sure what to use. All my lenses have lost weight to use ion my A7CII and A7CR even though I also have A1’s. Take care.

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV 5 днів тому

      I am a 100% manual shooter in terms of exposure and with flash. I found many years ago that it was far more simple and direct to be in manual all the time as there is less fooling with exposure. I typically use 'largeish' light modifiers that are up high enough to not cause a ton of glasses reflections but still offer a nice spread of light for two shots up to groups of 10. Everything I did at this wedding was with a light modifier called a Phottix Raja 105, which is a 41" Octa that assembles quick and doesn't weigh too much. It produces a predictable, flat, and beautiful light that I love. amzn.to/3VY0dqO

    With how advanced phones have gotten I truly believe anytime you can pull off something different than what people are used to seeing they love it. Not always a matter of better or worse, fake or genuine but simply different. Adding those lights to make them pop and add some modeling to their faces really works. When I shoot musicians I always want to give viewers something they simply don't see from their seats, often that means getting close with 400mm and capturing extreme details, also performers interacting with one another and things you see side stage that doesn't exist from the audience perspective. As always a great look into what it's like to be a real hired photographer. You have me thinking about some slower albeit lighter lenses, I'm always lugging around fast GM primes to everything.

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV 5 днів тому

      yeah, it depends on the assignment. I'm addicted to the 24/35/50/135GM's like anyone that has them, but this wedding was at a venue with over 100 steps up and down, with each level with its own private garden. No way was I going to hump GM glass all day! I just ordered the 24-50G lens and will test that out. I think it will prove to be an excellent choice for wedding work paired with a 70-200 (amzn.to/45K7uxE). It might just be my new indoor wedding solution for short glass as it's even lighter weight than the 24-70GMII. Sometimes the weight of gear can get in the way of the creative juices, set free from humping gear, to just perform and create. The 20-70G is a killer lens that allows this!

    I own both cameras. I am a full-time professional photographer, but sports is not my main money maker since I got the A9III, the A1 sits at home a lot. I have owned the.A1 sense mid 2021 and it was absolutely my favorite camera for the last three years. But it started showing its age when the A7RV shipped at the end of 2022. I could see the future and that included things like the AI auto focusing chip, the extended presets, and the clever, four-way moving screen. I have had the A9III for a couple of months, and I am so impressed with the global shutter, the unlimited flash sync that it allows. If I were shooting a sporting event, I would certainly use the A9III amd the A1. But if I’m shooting an event that is not a dedicated action or sporting event I would probably use the A9III and the A7RV as my second body.

    I agree that Sony is killing the Dinasaurs. But they seem to have left behind one of their best cameras The RX10 serices, I purchased the RX10 IV in addition to my full frame cameras. It is to me the most innovative camera that Sony ever made for non professional photographers. When traveling on vacation with friends and Family I give it to others on the trip to use and they are amazed at the photos they can get with the camera. All other them feel that they cot better photos with it than they could ever get with their iPhones. I own a Sony A1, and personally im usually not that bothered about firmware updates unless it upgrades video specs or improves autofocus etc. Despite this, it is very disappointing that Sony add some nice features to much cheaper cameras that appear to be purely software based and then don't add them to the flagship Sony camera. (I would really like focus bracketing, why dont we have that!?) ....they need to do better

    I’m confused. Can someone (Patrick?) explain why sticking with older firmware would be better? What are the issues people are seeing? I know some people had some sort of WiFi or Bluetooth disabling issue when 2.0 was first launched. But surely, this must have been fairly limited or Sony would have pulled the update. And PMR, if that is what you are worried about, surely if it happened you could just send your cameras in and get it fixed in a matter of days. I updated my a1 to v2, using a Mac, on day 1, no issues. When I see Sony sponsored photographers saying they are glad to have stuck with 1.32, and others saying “thank god” they didn’t update, I feel like I must have missed some part of the story. Someone care to fill me in?

      there were some AF issues that popped up in 2.0 the first time around, hence the need for 2.02 :)

    I think you are conflating minimum ISO with base ISO and the base ISO for the A9iii is 250.

    • @PMRTV
      @PMRTV 5 днів тому

      My video had nothing to do with the base ISO of the A9III, only the minimum ISO that can be set.

    A few days ago, I updated my A1's from 1.32-1.35- 2.01, then using the card to 2.02. All working fine, and as read on Sony website I had to re-setup the camera from scratch. I still wish drive mode and self timer were available in the Fn, rather than only the top left dial. Sometimes working in the dark is tricky using the dial.

      That dial is such a nonsense. I wish Sony had never implemented it.

      @@MarkusGebhard I don't mind the dial, but i wish there was also an option to change the drive mode in the rear dial/ menu/fn. It's odd its been blanked out in the Fn. Let's hope it is put back in the Creator's App eventually.

    I hate to be “that guy,” but what’s up with the “intro” and “outro” queues on your latest videos?

      I have to agree with the intro ! It’s your Channel so you can do as you wish but what I’ve noticed is that bigger UA-camrs just go straight to the point without an intro and people seems to enjoy it more because they just go straight to the point without wasting any second for this newer generation ! So that’s something to consider! But again is your channel ! Whatever makes you happy !

    I was on 1.32 and tend to wait to see if any issues before upgrading, as I have thoroughly enjoyed using my a1 for work (sports) and fun (wildlife). So once 2.02 came out and not read about as many issues with it (other than battery drain, though I have seen comments/replies on FB group about a solution for battery drain) and I upgraded to 2.02 (first to 1.35, then 2.01 using the Sony usb cable using iMac (with intel chip) and then memory card for 2.02 with no issues. And I understand that just because I had no issues, that others have not had serious problems, but just relating what I experienced.

    I started photography with the Sony stl a100 A-mount then the a77ii (I’m a wildlife photographer) the game changer for me was the a7iii. Now I shoot the a7R series with the T R E M EN D O U S fe300mmf2.8 gm this thing is a game changer so I got rid of my 400mmf2.8 gm (to heavy on the field)

    Thanks for the info as it's nice to know Sony is working on this issue, however 1.30 works flawless in my 3 A1's. Plus don't even understand what you get by updating. They should have just fixed or completed the autofocus animal eye .
